<collection_method>Ninety pupils with no neurological or developmental disorders, from an English secondary school where most students are from minority ethnic heritages, and the proportion of free school meals (determined by parental income-related benefits) is well above average, took part. Letters were sent to parents of 11- to 15-year-olds (in Years 7 to 10), inviting their children to take part. The final sample included 25 Year 7s (approx. 12 years old), 25 Year 8s (approx. 13 years old), 21 Year 9s (approx. 14 years old) and 15 Year 10s (approx. 15 years old).
Participants were tested in a quiet room in their school on four computerised tasks (Simple and Complex Go/No-Go tasks, Numerical Stroop task and Science and Maths misconception task) and on the WASI-II.
Details about the computerised task are provided in the associated manuscript submitted to PLOS ONE.</collection_method>

<legal_ethical>Written informed parental consent was obtained, where parents confirmed that their children had no neurological or developmental disorders. Participants aged 11 or 12 years verbally consented, while 13- to 15-year-olds provided written consent, in accordance with the guidelines of the local ethics committee, which approved the study.</legal_ethical>
