    Description

    Dorothy Duffy interviewed her elder sister, Billy. The interview was about Billy from ages fifteen to twenty five and encapsulated her experience of growing up the second eldest in a family of ten. Her role as the 'girl' in the family helping to raise the younger children as they came along – the impact on her education – the genesis of a love for children and family. A free spirited teenager who always found a way to break out of the constraints of the time (1940s) and always had a rose tinted view of most things including her parents.

    Tá Úna Gan A Gúna Irish Women’s Digital History Project

    Interviews with a range of women born in Ireland during the twentieth century or those with Irish connections. The aim was to gather the stories, memories and opinions of Irish women born in each decade of the twentieth century, about their experiences between the approximate ages of 15 and 25. The sample was found simply through women with whom volunteer interviewers had a connection or through Irish organisations. Interviews were recorded and participants checked and approved the transcripts and recordings.
