Films: Traces of an Invisible City: Three Notes on Hong Kong, Bo Wang & Pan Lu, Hong Kong, 2016, DCP, 70 minutes, Mandarin with English subtitles
Traces of an Invisible City: Three Notes on Hong Kong examines urban landscapes in Hong Kong to illustrate how the city’s public spaces have been constructed, used, owned and interpreted over time. The film contains three interwoven chapters which examine divided spaces, both local and global. The first chapter, “The Exhibition”, focuses on Art Basel at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre; “The Streets” explores the dramatic transformation of Hong Kong’s public spaces in recent years, while “The North Side” juxtaposes Hong Kong and the rapidly urbanising city of Shenzhen in mainland China.
Miasma, Plants, Export Paintings, Bo Wang & Pan Lu, Hong Kong, 2017, DCP, 28 minutes, Mandarin with English subtitles
Initially conceived as a two-channel video installation, the short film, Miasma, Plants, Export Paintings is a study of imperialism, focusing on the establishment of the British Botanic Empire in China and scientific research and illustration in nineteenth-century Guangzhou.
