[EFF15S9] Session 9: The Otolith Group presents The Three Disappearances of Souad Hosni
Description
Film: The Three Disappearances of Souad Hosni, Rania Stephan, Lebanon, 2011, digital, 70 minutes, Arabic with English subtitles
Screening introduced by Kodwo Eshun of The Otolith Group
Lebanese director Rania Stephan’s found-footage essay film explores the life and work of Souad Hosni, the most important actress in post-independence Egyptian cinema, who committed suicide in an Edgware Road flat in the early 2000s. Stephan compiled the film from over 60 VHS tapes of Hosni’s films to create a complex meditation on national cinema, celebrity and genre.
